This is also sometimes called ghosting. But you must do more than just apply
the Ghost filter to achieve it.
The first thing you will need is the Ghost filter which can be downloaded from Flaming Pear. Grab their other freebies while you are there most of them are good ones!. If you have never installed a Plug-in Filter before go to the tutorial page that will teach you how to install your first filter.
Now chose a tube that you would like to make into smoke or look like a ghost.
Shif+D to copy the tube and close the original.
| Effects /Plugin Filters/FlamingPear and find the Ghost filter. | Your image should now be Black and Transparent in places.![]() |
| Go to Colors/Negative Image |
Now the graphic should be white. |
|
Go to Effects/Blur/Gaussian Blur set the Radius no more than 1.00... any more than that and the pic will be nothing but a white blur. |

| Now do a drop shadow on it. Vertical and Horizontal should be set around 3 Opacity must be set lower than 80 but more than 50 and Blur must be set to a min of 4 maximum of 15. |

Now you can copy and "paste as a new layer" onto the background of your choice and it should look like a ghost or a cloud of smoke shaped like the tube that you used :) The reason for pasting as a new layer is so you can play with the layer transparency until you are satisfied with the look of your Ghost. |
